Understanding Representative APR on Car Finance

Representative APR is designed to help consumers compare advertised credit, but it is not a promise that every accepted applicant will receive that rate. Your personal quotation and pre-contract information contain the figures that apply to you.

What Representative APR means

Representative APR is an advertising measure governed by consumer-credit rules. It describes a rate expected to apply to a representative proportion of agreements, but an accepted customer may receive a different rate after the lender’s assessment.

APR is not the same as a flat interest rate

APR is an annualised measure intended to include interest and certain compulsory charges. A flat rate is calculated differently, so the two percentages should not be compared as though they mean the same thing.

Look at the total amount payable

Monthly payment matters for budgeting, but a lower payment can come from a longer term and lead to a higher overall cost. Compare the cash price, deposit, amount of credit, term, APR, monthly payment and total amount payable together.

Your quotation is the important document

The lender will provide information based on your application and the proposed agreement. Check whether fees or a final payment apply and whether the interest rate is fixed or variable. Ask questions before signing if anything is unclear.

Consider affordability over the full term

Allow for insurance, tax, fuel, servicing and repairs as well as the finance repayment. Think about whether the agreement would remain manageable if normal household costs changed.

Sun Valley’s role

Sun Valley Auto Sales Ltd acts as a credit broker, not a lender, and may introduce customers to selected credit providers. Finance is subject to status, affordability, credit checks and lender approval. The lender determines the available product and terms.

Frequently asked questions

Will I definitely receive the Representative APR?

No. It is an advertising measure, not a guaranteed personal rate. The lender decides the terms after assessing an application.

Is the lowest monthly payment always the cheapest option?

No. Compare the agreement term and total amount payable, because a longer term can reduce the monthly payment while increasing the overall cost.
